What Has the World Come To?
By Inspirational Diva Allison Bell
This is a question we often ask when tragedy happens. Yes - what has the world come to when a young man is feeling severe depression, anxiety, and confusion he feels it is necessary to go on a shooting rampage at Virginia Tech.
As I was watching the news this week I saw an interview with a Virginia Tech student who said, "There was nothing we really could have done." I understand her comment in the context that there was nothing the students and faculty of the school could do to stop the rampage - at that moment. The question to you - Is there something we could have done as a community to prevent this all from happening?" - YES.
I am sure you are familiar with the quote "Be the change you want to see in the world." I will ask that you join me in making sure this never happens again. It's simple. Every human has a core fundamental for living - love, affection, appreciation, and attention. When you are going through life without these essentials - life can seem like it is not worth living.
Just this last week I had a speaking engagement in Sacramento and an 8 year old little girl admitted that she had thought about killing herself. Our kids need us. We need to make a commitment to them and go out of our way to spread love and joy to all. That's our mission and our purpose - to help those in need.
I will ask that you go out of your way to get connected within our young adult population. We need to start teaching kids at a young age what it means to be happy, to be fulfilled, and what is means to give back. This will nurture their core essentials and teach them how to build confidence and self worth.
